What Are Classes In ESO
There are 4 Classes in ESO at the moment – Dragonknight, Nightblade, Sorcerer and Templar – each with 18 different Active and 12 different Passive Skills. In ESO, your Class determines the Class Skills available to you. Class Skills are 3 different Skill Lines that you will have access to right from the beginning of the game.
Your Class is a very important decision as it effects many of the Skills that you have available to you throughout the game. All Classes can use all of the Weapon Skills and other Skills but your Class Skills are set. The Classes in ESO are based around typical archetype characters from Elder Scrolls lore as well as general MMO stereotypes. It’s important to remember, however, that all Classes can perform all reasonably well, it’s just that some are easier for particular roles.
The Class Skills page displays all of the different Skills available for each Class.
- Class Skills cost Magicka to cast and will use Spell Critical.
- Class Skills increase in damage and healing based on your Max Magicka and Spell Damage.
- Some Class Skills offer a Stamina morph option which allows you to transform the ability to use Stamina, Weapon Damage and Weapon Critical.
Dragonknight
These skillful masters-at-arms use the ancient Akaviri martial arts tradition of battle-spirit, and wield fearsome magic that pounds, shatters and physically alters the world around them.
Typical Roles: Damage, Tank
Dragonknights have lots of fiery skills, protection skills and great damage over time abilities. They can perform well as a tank or a damage character.
Nightblade
Nightblades are adventurers and opportunists with a gift for getting in and out of trouble. Relying variously on stealth, blades, and speed, Nightblades thrive on conflict and misfortune, trusting to their luck and cunning to survive.
Typical Roles: Sneak, Melee Damage
Nightblades have the only invisibility spell in ESO at the moment, and have good instant cast melee damage spells. They also make good Stamina characters because of their Stamina morph options on some of their Class Skills.
Sorcerer
Sorcerers can use conjuration and destruction spells to hurl lightning bolts and create shock fields, wield dark magic to snare and stun, and summon Daedric combat followers from Oblivion to assist them.
Typical Roles: Ranged Damage, Healer
Sorcerers have great ranged damage, lots of lightning style spells and are the only Class at this time to be able to summon pets for combat.
Templar
These traveling knights call upon the powers of light and the burning sun to deal massive damage to their enemies while restoring Health, Magicka, and Stamina to their allies.
Typical Roles: Healer, Tank
Templars are great healers, with probably the best burst healing potential and good passives to back that up further. Templars also have a lot of utility and defensive spells to boost themselves and their allies.
