ESO FAQ >> Are Veteran Ranks Being Removed

Are Veteran Ranks Being Removed

Yes. At some point in the future, possibly half way through 2016, Veteran Ranks will be removed from Elder Scrolls Online. This information comes from forums posts and ESO Live in which different members from ZOS have repeatedly stated that the Veteran Rank system will be fully replaced with the Champion System.

You can view the History of Veteran Ranks for some more context.

The Champion System is set to replace the levelling aspect of VR and the new Champion Point cap provides a more traditional vertical levelling experience. Champion Points are also set to influence gear in the future. The article What Is Going On With Veteran Ranks details some of the most recent information concerning the transition process.

For those of us who have worked so hard and spent so many hours of online game play to gain levels all the way to Veteran 16… The news of Veteran Rank removal is unbelievable! So all the work and dedication was for nothing? Not a good call for the loyal fans who have put the time into the game to get to the top. The comments that the game is too hard? Ridiculous! Those who cannot make it to Veteran 16 because of lack of skill (or playing time) should not begrudge those who have worked and have had the time to reach the top Veteran levels. Veterans should and do deserve to keep their well earned levels. This seems like a case of all those who have NOT attained a top rank get to dictate what those who have attained should receive. It is truly unfair.

Honestly, this will help with making alts. The extra grind for my lowbies is what is stopping me from making different Classes. This would be great imo. Always wanted to make a glass cannon Sorc.

How can anyone be in agreement with not having to level characters SEPERATELY? I see that vet ranks are a redundancy with the champion system so I see how people would want the leveling system to just be changed to champ system.

The whole idea of sharing one characters level progression with every other character is idiotic and would be detrimental to the game ESPECIALLY for new players and for players who have already taken the time to level alts. If you want an MMO that requires no effort I suggest a private server of any other MMO as I don’t know of an ESO private server that allows you to max easily.

Yahweh have mercy! I have spent countless hours trying to reach V16. In fact, just last week I broke through and was super excited about my achievement because I worked so dang hard……ARRRRGGGahflandflslfdsdfjlsdfljha!
Short and sweet rant. Still my favorite game ever. I’m okay.

I have Veteran Rank 16s and I’m excited about the removal. Now every character I level to 50 will be considered Veteran Rank 16 so anyone who complains about it is silly. It’s going to be great. You’ll keep your Skill Points and everything.

I was against it at first for the exact same reason as ironmark but now I can’t wait because the grind to vr16 for the 3rd time is something I’m not looking forward to. And I never would have tried a Templar if it meant that grind but once the change is made I’ll be giving one a go as I’ve just levelled a Sorc to vr1 ready for the change.

I am agree with remove Vet Level. Most players having problem to sell items to other players in guild store. I am at 16 Vet Level and I have hard time to sell some armor and weapon to other player that why I did check roster list they are most still under 50 Level.

The thing that’s troublesome about the change is that the new constant grind will be getting max gear. Once you hit max Champ Points or even beforehand every Champ Point will nullify the “max” gear you had a Champ Point beforehand. So yes it’ll take away the lowbie grind but there will be a constant grind for max gear and tempering mats.

I am glad to be rid of the vet system I have 3 vet characters and yet when I play my low one first time vet 16s think they are high and mighty and think about it. In pvp a first time level 28 would not stand a chance against a vet 16. It is really unfair.

no offense here but it is fair, why should someone who has put in hundreds of hours in game time to spec his character out and reach v16 be so easily trampled by a guy with 15 hours in total play time spam his wrecking blow and crush the v16…

now to counter that argument i also have crushed v16s with a lvl 10 tank because i have taken my champ pts from my vets which are account wide and buffed my tank… its about time in brother, the v16s are the reward for time in, so if you come in at 23 or whatever what reward is there to you if you can go in at v16 when you get there and get wrecked by some novice… how is it fair to the guy who has put time in to get his character beefed up and have it all mean nothing because some newb smacks him up without a challenge where is the reward, if your logic here makes any sense why then dont we all just run pvp on lvl 10s…

if you cant handle v16 than play in the non vet pvp brother plain and simple.

Wait, so you basically implying, that the one, who GRINDS more is the one who deserve to win? Why TESO then? Why not, Black Desert? Or any Korean MMO for that matter?
        In other words, I disagree.
You see, after playing alot of good and bad MMOs I came to a conclusion, that only a player’s skill should decide the outcome of PvP battle.

Not the half year of time, which you spent mashing 2 buttons in dungeons, for getting that perfect gear. Which is roughly x7.23 times better than average starter gear.
Not the thousands of dollars you’ve spent on your character.
        Not the class imbalance.
        Only pure skill, man.

Yes, I know it’s an RPG and not a shooter. And the crucial part of an RPG is developing your character. But this process should not interfere with PvP by any means, man.

Man in pvp I see a lot, lv20’s slaughter v16’s. Been there done that. When I first started out I took my 1st v16 to pvp and got annihilated by a lv22. Now, since I have a handle on character building, I can level v16’s with my lv35.

Still, removing vr levels is not a great idea. My last 100+ hours of play was nothing more than vr level grinding.

Most complaints I’ve heard about vr’s was from noobs who want to dominate in pvp without taking the time to grow a fighter so of course it’s all blamed on players who DiD take the time to level and hone their builds.

Slowly but surely the devs are ruining an already mediocre game.

Well I’m VR 5 and I say keep the system as is no one told y’all to make more then one player you knew from the get go how hard it would be to lvl up one player let alone 3 or 4 stop bitching and play another game. Next ppl crying that it’s not fair it’s not suppose to be fair just like life what you put into the game that’s what you get out simple. The game isn’t made for you to go OP and to reach lvl 50th or VR 16 in one day put in work and shut up. Also other Vet Rank players isn’t going to buy over price lower the price and move on cuz we can easily make our own. Last thing the Vet Ranking separate the weak from the strong it give ppl something to play for a reason to grind then show off if everyone is at PvP 50 gettin easy as Champion Points where’s the fun in that I can get 15 Champion Points a day but my VR rank won’t move lol and that give me a reason to grind harder so ppl enjoy the game stop trying to take the easy way out.

it isn’t really unfair or fair because the people that spent the time to grind to vr16 may lose their progress but it is fair taking away up to 100 hours of mindless grinding in areas you don’t want to do period, I honestly think that vet levels should be kept but also incorporate the newer plan for gear, diablo 3 has the setup where you can use the max gear but continue to level up and gain skill points. Champion points should be endless but leveling should stop at the point where all of your skills are maxed out, its worthless to go beyond that.

Or just put hard caps on all the CP skills, so that you can put 1000 or even 10000 points into one skill without making a huge difference.

More then half of you are for removal of vet ranks because the game is to hard. That’s the most pathetic reason I ever heard! XD Anyways I’m sure us veterans will get a major boost when they remove vet ranks. it’ll be hilarious seeing lvl 50 players ( previously v16 ) slaughter whole battalions of newbie 50’s all across the cyrodiil. Probably restructure the ranking system to: 50-30 in 2017 after cry babies spam reports. Regardless if they make us all “equals” the weak will be separated from the strong.. 🙂

I am glad they are doing away with vr16. People who played the game for a long time ended up with a double advantage. Time spent in game learning systems as well as gear and champion points that made them a brick wall for low vr players. A reward should not be determined by time played. It should be determined by skill. When your character is maxed out you could make 10 mistakes in a fight with someone lower than you and still laugh at them before two hitting them. That does not bring new players to a game. It kills growth of a player base. I fought through it, but it is definitely hard.

I don’t think they should take away veteran ranks, but I do think that they should just keep champion points to one character. The champion points you earn on that character should only be for that character because in non vet you have guys running around 1v10 new players so the new players just quit the game, then there is really low population for the game.

To the people trying to lol the people who are for removing vet lvling by saying it’s because they think it’s hard… no… no… NO! It is not hard to hit V16. It is tedious and time consuming for no other reason than to be tedious and time consuming. That’s it. That’s why it’s bad. ESO appeals to an older audience, who just so happen, don’t have the luxury of grinding in game for lvls all day every day. It’s a bad system that is hurting the game, if it wasn’t, they wouldn’t be getting rid of it. You are complaining about them taking away your “hard” work because it sucked. It wasn’t hard, it just took forever. Holding someone else back because “back in my day!” logic is all you can think about, is moronic and halts future progress. You keep you CP progress and then some… so why are you complaining about the removal? “Well we only get 40 points to make up for it!” Oh? 40 points sounds pretty amazing when you’re one of those people so far along that you need millions of exp just to get a single point. This is will not negatively impact anyone in the game that already has v16.

I’m not too happy about them getting rid of vet ranks. It is a terrible system, don’t get me wrong. But they shouldn’t take out the concept of leveling past 50. Just take the vet requirements off everything. And like some previous people mentioned; it’ll just bring up different “levels” of level 50. We’ll end up with people who just hit level 50 mixed in with former vet 16s with way better equipment who are technically now the same level.

Removing the vet system would completely destroy any sense of balance. While I do agree that eso should be skill based not time based it does seem like a huge “screw you” to the people who bothered to get up to vet 16 only to be dropped down to 50 because the system they worked against to get to tjat level was removed.

Why not keep non-Cyrodiil places exactly how they are, and then make servers in Cyrodiil for non-vet+non-champion, non-vet+champion, vet+non-champion, and vet+chanpion?

This is ridiculous. Your going to get rid of all your most dedicated players hard work so the moods feel that it’s “fair” it will not be, there will always be people who are better and more experienced than others, so many of ESO players who are low level are likely to have alt accounts that are max. Most of the low level are just retuning veterans. If people see that their hard work has been wasted and stop playing, if that happens then who will be there to carry these noobs through the content. It’s really not hard to level up, the effort you put in is what you will get back. Never mind the fact that this update will bring with it a tremendous amount of bugs and defects. If you can’t level up or are too bad then you always will be so just give up. You’ll find that most people would happily help you through conent in order to level up if you just stopped crying at looked at the situation properly. They should not do this, it is a very bad idea.

Bad idea in your opinion. I find it amazing you all can tell ZoS how to run their business. Nothing stays the same forever. Embrace change as you can’t really stop what they do with their property. I’m a returning player and I find how much the game has changed pretty refreshing. I’ve wanted alts, myself, now this encourages me to actually put some work in on one of them.

I’ve owned the game for about 4 months, but only now got to level 36 as i just don’t have the time to play MMO’s / RPG’s any more…. Work, wife, kids etc etc.

My main motivation to keep playing is to reach v16 one day, as it’s a personal gaming achievement that will actually mean something special apart from finishing the main story. If the opportunity to reach veteran rank is going to be pulled away, then i’ll feel less compelled to carry on playing once i’ve finished the main story, as level 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56 (or whatever they decide to change veteran system to in future) will be just the same as any other RPG i have played in the last 35 years….. It’ll get boring quick.

All those comments about how all that time and effort people who have attained the highest rank has been wasted and what not are just silly and ignorant comments in my eyes unless of course I miscomprehended what’s written. Yes, there will be a VISUAL change, it will show level 50 or whichever level cap they decide on rank 1, 8, 16 and everything in between will just visually represented as 50. However the time and effort put into a character is not ‘wasted’ because people who got to rank 16 obviously have obtained a lot more champion points than a rank 2.

This game is great, it has a lot of really great content, but let’s be honest a game has to stay fun right? After you have attained the highest rank on one character and you played while questing and played through all that awesome content that has been created for you, it’s just a drag to do all that again and again and again. The quests are great a first time, perhaps even a second time but I’m pretty sure after that everyone will just mindlessly grind dungeons or monster spawns and look for whichever way is fastest to reach V16 on their new alt. Which in my eyes is the true waste of time, mostly it’s just taking away your “fun” experience and replaces it with a grind chore, not saying that the grind chore cant be fun, I know people who find it fun but I doubt that’s what the developers had in mind when they started creating this game.

However, with this update it just becomes less of a chore, you still get to build a better character by having gained more champion points than a fresh level 50 character so your time and effort is still being rewarded, heck you even get to build several better characters without the pointless grind since all those champion points you accumulated during those precious hours that you played and all that effort and dedication you put into the game are shared across characters, aside from it being less of a chore to build a new character for a veteran player it also means more time for current content and that on multiple characters! I can see absolutely nothing wrong with this system they want to implement, however it’s just my opinion about this upcomming patch and I’m sure people can find fault in that as well as they will in the upcomming patch but I think that’s mostly because people generally don’t like big changes much, it’s like that in every game, things change and I like to believe that they change it for the better, have some faith in the developers it’s not like they come up with changes to get rid of people.

    Just my two cents,
    Phobs

I think the vet system is over rated most people don’t have time to spend 20 hours a day in game like some these vet16 people do , I’ve Ben playing for 3 months and I have a lvl 40 character and when I go to gravy wood the vets make fun of me and call me a newb which I’m not , and setting the cap to lvl 50 would eliminate this

What’s next? Will they just reward people for buying the game and give them max level characters and the best gear? If it isn’t broke don’t fix it.. why are they catering to people who barely play the game? Thats like politicians catering to the 2% of people in the country and screwing over the rest lol. Phobs has a good point. You still keep the 16 extra skill points and all the Cpoints on you character. It’s definitely not wasted time. For me it’s about the visual rank. I hope they implement something special for the vets that have put in the time to reach the veteran levels. Armor dyes and character titles would be great to show the effort the players have put in.
