Gear and Item Set Info

This build runs five pieces of light armor; head, chest, legs and feet. Four of armor and your destruction staff in Law of Julianos. Last are three are heavy hands and shoulders, and destruction staff, all in Magnus' gift. Last are three jewelry in Soul shine, all enchanted with reduce magicka cost and trait of Max magicka, (of course).

General Info

This build is centered around pve using DOTs for damage, prison for control, and power surge for survival. For the most part, you're a glass cannon, so killing the mobs faster than they can kill you is essential.

Killing power comes from your crit chance on your DOTs. Your damage over time abilities deal damage every half second, and you can boost your crit simply by having inner light slotted, which also increases your Max mag by 5%. More magicka equals more damage. Also taking a lot of the dark magic passives like blood magic for passive healing and exploitation for a crit bonus.

All this synergizes beautifully with power surge. This is your main buff, it increases both spell and weapon damage by 20% and adds a passive effect that heals you for 40% of any crit damage you deal.

Your greatest single target damage skill is crystal frag. If it procs, that's 20% additional damage, as well as 20% from power surge and if you took the mage's guild passive, empower for yet another 20%. Now if it crits, that's close to 17-18K damage!

Your basic rotation is power surge, inner light (for empower), proc the frag, shattering prison for immobilization, elemental blockade DOT, (switch bars) liquid lightning DOT, then lay your execute (endless fury) on all enemies, they then die and you get a lot of your magicka back to move on to the next mob.

Bosses, for the most part are not subject to the shattering prison skill, so you need to be more mobile, using crushing shock, and crystal frags for most of your damage. Overload gives you a third ability bar, on this I run a chosen ward, hurricane, degeneration over structured entropy, (why? Because the affected target takes additional damage from light attacks, which while overload is active, each attack deals damage equal to an unbuffed frag, that's why) power surge and lastly, dark conversion for heal and magicka return at the cost of stamina.

Tanking momentarily against a melee boss by using hardened ward and hurricane, you can stay put in your liquid lightning and let both deal DOT damage to negate the bosses damage by using power surge's heal. Then lay down eye of the storm for massive damage. When he/she/it is practically dead, burst it down with endless fury execute and move on.

Note that these strategies are for solo play, change to your discretion when playing in a group.

Alternatives to running harness magicka and hardened ward, would be the toggleable bound aegis. Know this, bound aegis does not receive a bonus from the lord passive bastion, as aegis is for resistance, not absorbing damage. It's main appeal is that while active, you receive a bonus of 8% Max mag.

Champion Point Tips

Champion points are mostly in elf born, spell erosion, magician, thamaturge, light armor focus, spell shield, bastion, arcanist.

why use eye of storm and not elemental rage?

It’s simply a matter of preference. I prefer the eye because it gives me freedom of movement. I don’t have to try to contain the enemies within a single point, I just let them come to me as is their wont regardless, and let them die as they attempt to follow me. Shooting star is also a viable option.

Dude I love the sound of this build I can’t wait to spend 20k to remorph and try it out… so instead of structured entropy use the other morph to increase light attack damage and my lighting hands will increase damage with huge crits from elf born?

As far as I understand, that WAS the effect it had. Overload takes away your weapon, and your hands are always your ‘weapons’ so the effect should apply. But the ability was changed, now and I quote, the morph is as follows, ‘While active, your weapon attacks have a 15% chance to heal you for 115% of damage caused.’
I still think this is better than Structured entropy, as that only increases your max health by 8%. Though it no longer increases your light attack damage, it is still a good skill, or you’re more than welcome to supplement it with another.
