General Info
Note: This actually my own (main) build, not a build plan or build suggestion. Only for sharing purposes.
It has been tested to be both fun and effective as an all around build that plays an effective tank role in group PvE, yet still maintains decent damage output and easily adjustable for PvP.
The gear was rather easy to obtain. Just a couple runs through Fungal Grotto, a visit to Alik'r Desert and some shopping around a bit at guild traders.
Dreugh King Slayer, which comes in all heavy armor, is extremely fun with the constant Major Brutality as well as Major Expedition after a kill. This combined with Major Berserk from Reaper's Mark makes you extremely quick and deadly. You can play around with the combos as necessary.
PvE: The two-handed is set-up for fighting mobs and sword'n'board is for tanking bosses.
There are a lot of benefits from passives in this build.
For example, when tanking, Refreshing Path is to be used in conjunction with the Shadow Barrier passive. There are also key passives such Undaunted Mettle and the Vampire passives mentioned above.
ULTIMATE: Bolstering Darkness is an extremely helpful ability when tanking, so I utlize light attacks and Heroic Slash wisely to build up ultimate. Also, Swallow Soul is on that bar for a reason, not just to heal. I use it in conjunction with the Tranfer passive to gain even more ultimate. The Catalyst passive, in the same skill tree, contributes to ultimate as well. Use all of these passives are used for the most effective tanking.
PvP: The skill bar set-up shown is for PvE. When switching to PvP the desired set-up requires the following replacements:
- Bar 1
- Brawler w/ Relentless Focus
- Ambush w/ Shadow Image
- Dawnbreaker of Smiting w/ Onslaught
- Bar 2
- Inner Beast w/ Mass Hysteria
- Siphoning Attacks w/ Resolving Vigor
- Refreshing Path w/ Shuffle
- Swallow Soul w/ Ambush
- Bolstering Darkness w/ Dawnbreaker of Smiting
There are various combos for both 1v1 and 1vX situations. The move of Ambush and placement of Shadow Image with it's teleport function lend to easier offensive tactics in fighting open world. (Ex: Mark target 1, Shadow Image, WS, RF, Ambush target 1, Light, Slash, Mass Hysteria, Ambush target 2, Light, Slash, Ambush target 3, Light, Slash, Ambush back to target 1, light, Slash, Spectral bow, WS, Reverse Slice, Onslaught, Shadow Image, Mark target 2... etc..)
Champion Point Tips
Here is the key champoin point distribution focus.

…also forgot to mention that inner beast is the choice taunt for its range and I think that the heavy armor passives should be a given.
Mistake in armor… it’s 6 heavy, 1 medium.
Swap Heroic Slash with Reverberating Bash and flip-flop Relentless Focus / Resolving Vigor on the PvP set-up.
For hairier tanking situations, activate The Lord mundus for more health. It’s free and the divines armor will give it an additional boost.
Thanks for sharing – unfortunately it is listed as a DD build, which confused me when I saw shield and heavy armor 🙂
I’m a complete new player: The skills are using magika, so why invest in stamina? Or am i missing something?
