This build shines in solo/small group. With a healer, drop a shield for mist form or draw essence or engulfing flames. Thats a true flex spot.
I personally have been loving the aesthetic of playing with maw of the infernal, but zaans is BIS for this build. with leap and empowering chains, you'll never get left behind by a stam character, rathr youll be on them non-stop and zaans will go without interruption. Not everyone has zaans and its a doosey to get, so Maw is a fun, non-meta alternative. You'll be weaving like a magNB in your main rotation of lashes and embers, (make sure to trade between fossilize and talons, those shouldnt have a weave) so Maw should proc often. "Meta" sets are valkyn and bloodspawn.
Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, wizard riposte is simply more effective than fortified brass in terms of light armor tankiness. CP or charpened weapons, debuffs like major fracture, etc all can counter fortified. the only way to counter riposte is a cleanse and that is a really expensive skill (plus it reapplies really quickly)
If you want to be a glass cannon badass, go DW and have 5 BSW 5 silks of the sun for the beefy 956 spelldamage increase to spell damage when both proc on flame abilities. But thats got so little surviveability.
Champion Point Tips
Typical magDK except far less emphasis on thaumaturge. You're damage comes from flame damage spikes from whips and leaps.
