General Info

Trying a non meta build here. Love engine guardian because of the constant application of shields, buffs, and combo setting (sorc gameplay is very fast) you'll have engine procing often.

WHY ENGINE GUARDIAN? => 1. The "pet" serves as a target hindrance (console this is nice as loads of people don't "tab"-target on console) 2. Great sustain boost. 3. MOST IMPORTANT this makes your playstyle far more unpredictable than a meta sorc rotation. Mag proc = big offensive push, stam proc = roll dodge, overload bar and dark conversion for mag recovery, sprint around fo LoS, etc. health proc = suddenly play with one shield, and boost offensive push with a shortened defensive rotation.

is this the single best build? Definitely not. If you want meta, go 5 piece shackle, 5 piece lich (or war maiden if you're an argonian), 1 piece domihaus.

WHY SOUL ASSAULT? => honestly meteor is probably better here. Personally, i dont liek to have too big a difference in max mag between front and back bar. I like waitng for their cc immunity to be off cool down, then prepping with a curse, mages wrath (execute) destructive reach (with block cancel) then soul assault. With the block cancel done right, youll be able to have a solid 1-1.5 seconds of soul assault then the curse tic + hopefully mages wrath proc... thats a lot of damage. Also, with it being such a low-cost ulti you can use this combo a lot. Puts you on cc immunity (but doesnt trigger a cool down) AND keeps pesky NBs from going into stealth.

OVERLOAD BAR: retreating maneuvers, dark conversion, mines, hardened ward, streak

Champion Point Tips

CP is highly personal. I only strongly suggest having 64 into arcanist, and then as much as you can in master-at-arms and ele expert for offense. For defense 51 (minimum) into bastion to get those beefy shields.

I play PC so I’m going to take your word that you can LoS with pets.

Why not try chokethorn? The duration is a 2 seconds shorter but its more consistent in that it heals you for way more and it’s always healing. Plus, you get extra magicka regen all constantly instead of health regen.

The final selling point in my mind is defensively. You see that you’re losing a 1v1 so you start shield stacking and wait for chokethorn to proc. Then you get 4 seconds to heal back to full and push, or escape.

It procs less often but its a better proc I think.

You are right, the heals from chokethorn are much more reliable than those from engine guardian. The reason I still feel more comfortable with engine guardian is I don’t often find myself needing the big heals from chokethorn, and it is a predictable set. As long as you stay consistent and alert with your shield stacking, the only times you’ll be needing big heels is when you’re in a really dangerous situation. The way I get around that is LoS with some streaks, healing ward, overload bar and dark conversion. In duels? You are right, I think chokethorn might be the better choice with this unique setup. Also, with the argonian OP passive, any health pot (or tri pot) gives you 11K health back instantly, so I have a 45s “get out of jail” health card already.

Monster helms are really up to personal preference and playstyle. I’ve run with infernal guardian, chokethorn, engine guardian, slimecraw, etc. Loads work, but do what makes you feel most comfortable!

Also full disclosure, given that end game is fashion and I love the engine guardian look…. that’s a significant part of my reason for using the set 😉
